Metro area heat advisory in effect until Thursday night
A metro area heat advisory remains in effect until Thursday night.
Chief Meteorologist Ken Barlow says Monday and Tuesday will easily reach the 90-degree mark after four straight days of 90-degree weather.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties.
Tips to stay cool amid near-record heat expected Friday, this weekend
The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned areas, staying out of the sun when possible and checking on relatives, friends and neighbors. Those who must spend time outside are advised to wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in the shade.
Barlow said the record high temperature for June 7 was set in 2011, at 103 degrees.
Looking ahead, Barlow said hot weather will stick around, with a chance of a thunderstorm by Tuesday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will likely hover near 90 degrees for most of the week and weekend, Barlow said.
