The mayor of Hudson, Wisconsin says he will propose a curfew for bars and restaurants after a fatal stabbing over the weekend.

Mayor Rich O’Connor told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he will ask the Common Council on Monday night to approve the curfew, which would force bars and restaurants to close at 10 p.m.

The move was prompted by weekend violence that included three people stabbed at three different locations in downtown Hudson, early Sunday morning. One of those victims died.

The mayor noted that many people are coming to Hudson from Minnesota because of fewer COVID-19 restrictions on bars and restaurants.

"Just please respect the people who live here … If you are coming here just to drink and raise hell … you’re not welcome," O’Connor said.

"We can’t stop the flow of people coming across the border but we can restrict the hours that they can be involved in activities downtown," he added.

The council is set to meet at 7 p.m. Even if proposed by O’Connor, the curfew isn’t expected to be voted on by the council on Monday night.
