Fridley crash involving semi truck kills pedestrian
A pedestrian is dead after he was struck by a semi truck Tuesday evening in Fridley.
Just before 5:30 p.m, the Fridley Police Department responded to a report of a crash involving a semi and pedestrian. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says the collision occurred at the intersection of Northeast Old Central and 72nd avenues.
The semi was driving north on Old Central and attempted to turn west onto 72nd when 35-year-old Brian Robert Loyas, of Columbia Heights, was trying to cross and was hit by the truck, the sheriff’s office said.
Emergency crews applied life-saving measures to Loyas, and he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. However, he died within an hour of the accident, suffering multiple blunt force injuries, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday.
The semi truck driver was not injured.
This incident remains under investigation by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
