Florida man federally charged with human smuggling at US-Canada border

On Thursday, the United States Attorney’s Office for the district of Minnesota announced a federal grand jury has returned an indictment against a Florida man for a January incident at the U.S.-Canada border.

Steve Shand, 47, has been charged with two counts of human smuggling according to Acting United States Attorney Charles Kovats.

Shand was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents during a traffic stop between the entry ports of Lancaster, Minnesota, and Pembina, North Dakota, after being identified as the driver of a white-colored passenger van transporting undocumented Indian nationals.
