Family and friends of 56-year-old Jay Boughton held a prayer vigil Sunday night to honor his life and keep his case at the forefront of the public’s mind as the Plymouth Police Department seeks help in finding his killer.
Boughton was shot and killed around 10 p.m. Tuesday as he drove home on southbound Highway 169 with his son.
Aaron Robinson, Boughton’s nephew, told more than a hundred people at the vigil that Boughton’s family was asking the community to use the power of prayer at this time.
“This is touching the lives of thousands, if not tens of thousands of people right now,” Robinson said. “Jay’s life and his celebration of life is touching so many people, and it’s bringing people to prayer and it is bringing people closer to God.”
Joe Higgins, one of Boughton’s closest friends, also told those who gathered Sunday night that there is scripture to lean on as they seek justice for the Boughton family.
“For the Lord is a God of justice and blessed are those who wait for Him, and I think we all want immediate justice,” Higgins said. “We want those criminals arrested and put away for a long time, and that anger is something we have all felt, but we need to wait on God because it is not going to happen overnight.”
Police said the suspect’s vehicle is a light-colored SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition or a Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban.
CrimeStoppers has offered a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case. There is a GoFundMe page set up to help the Boughton family.
Anyone with information that could help investigators is encouraged to contact Plymouth Police.
