Duluth man charged with attempted murder for stabbing pregnant girlfriend
A Duluth man has been charged with attempted murder for stabbing his girlfriend more than a dozen times, court records show.
Anthony Alton Holloway, 35, is charged with attempted second-degree murder and child endangerment, according to a criminal complaint.
On Wednesday, police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting that a woman had been stabbed at an apartment on Kenwood Avenue near St. Benedict Street in Duluth, the complaint says. Holloway told the dispatcher that there was a bleeding woman with him whom he’d stabbed.
Upon arriving at the apartment, officers found a woman “bleeding profusely” from numerous stab wounds, the complaint states. She was taken to the hospital and determined to have 13-15 stab wounds to her back, neck, and chest — one stab wound also pierced her heart. The victim is two months pregnant with Holloway’s baby.
The victim had been sleeping with her and Holloway’s 1-year-old curled up to her chest and was woken by Holloway stabbing her in the back, court records state. As she tried to flee, Holloway stabbed her frontside multiple times, threatening to kill her and cursing at her. The victim told police she believed he was going to kill her.
“He kept lunging at me,” she said. “It felt like I was just some pin cushion.”
She was able to get out of the apartment unit and to another resident for help. Holloway then locked the apartment with the 1-year-old — who police found uninjured but covered in blood — and an 8-year-old child inside, the complaint says.
The victim told police she’d seen Holloway conceal a knife in his pocket earlier on Wednesday, but he denied it when she confronted him. She’d told Holloway the week prior that she was pregnant. The pair have been together for five years, “with domestic violence becoming a regular part of their relationship” over the past two, according to the complaint.
While the victim was pregnant with their 1-year-old, Holloway allegedly told her he hoped the infant would die.
Holloway was uninjured when Duluth police found him in the apartment and took him into custody. He is currently in custody at St. Louis County Jail with bail set at $750,000 and has a hearing later this month.
