Officer Garrett Parten, a spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department, said the shooting happened at 21st and Sheridan avenues north around 3:45 p.m. Officers responding to the area found two men who had been shot inside a vehicle.

Officers provided aid to the victims, but they were pronounced dead at the scene, Parten said.

Witness reports indicate that a person left the vehicle after the shooting, Parten said. No suspects have been taken into custody.

This shooting marks the sixth and seventh homicides in Minneapolis this year.

Thursday’s shooting is just two blocks away from where a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting Wednesday near North Penn Avenue and Golden Valley Road.

“Certainly this is rousing a lot of emotions, even to the point of anger about the gun violence we’re experiencing in our city,” Parten said. “There might be a desire to throw your hands up, give up. I just want to say the Minneapolis Police Department is resolved in maintaining their commitment to solving these kinds of crimes.”
