Delta: New uniforms in progress after employees say former uniforms made them sick

Delta Air Lines announced it's launching a new uniform program for flight attendants and customer service agents after employees sued the company claiming their uniforms caused health issues.

In the lawsuits, employees claim the uniforms, made by Lands' End, contained chemicals in the fabric that caused issues such as breathing problems, blisters, rashes, boils, hives, hair loss, blurred vision and nosebleeds.

In an update Wednesday, company officials said employee feedback will guide the design of the new uniforms, which the company hopes to introduce late 2021.

"In response to our employees, we've taken steps over the past few months to address feedback received about the uniform, including offering alternative garments, hiring fabric experts, and conducting comprehensive chemical testing," Ekrem Dimbiloglu, director of the airline's New Uniform Program, said in a statement. "This is a big decision, but we side with our people, and we are making a change."

Company officials said Delta employees will be offered new uniform choices in the interim.
