Charges: Teen accused in 10-year-old Chippewa Falls girl’s death went back to hide her body

The teenage boy accused in the death of a 10-year-old Chippewa Falls girl went back to hide her body, court documents state.

Illiana “Lily” Peters was reported missing at around 9 p.m. on April 24 after her dad said she didn’t come home from her aunt’s house. The girl’s body was found just before 9 a.m. on April 25.

Law enforcement arrested a 14-year-old, eighth-grade boy, who is now charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree sexual assault and first-degree sexual assault of a child under 13 resulting in great bodily harm. His bond was set at $1 million last week.

According to a criminal complaint, the boy told police he helped Peters get her bike and they then left on a trail — Peters on her bike and the boy on a hoverboard. The boy allegedly told police he intended to kill and rape Peters as soon as they left. Once on the trail, he asked Peters to explore off the trail and they walked into the woods where he then assaulted and strangled her, the complaint states.

At some point, the boy said he got scared and ran home, showered and put his clothes in the laundry. But after hearing Peters was reported missing, he went back, moved her body a few feet and covered her with leaves, the complaint states.

His next court hearing is scheduled for June 24.
