Armed carjacking reported in Maplewood, police investigating

A man had his vehicle stolen in Maplewood on Thursday night.

According to Maplewood Minnesota Public Safety’s Facebook post, at about 11 p.m., a man was driving on McKnight Road North in the area of Lower Afton Road when his vehicle was struck by a black SUV twice. Both vehicles then pulled over.

The suspect, described as a Black man, 20-30 years old and wearing a black sweater, approached the man’s window. The victim was told by the suspect that his parents wanted to speak with him outside the vehicle. According to Maplewood Police, the victim said he thought this was suspicious and stayed in the vehicle, locking the doors. The suspect then brandished a black handgun and told the victim to get out of his vehicle, which the victim did.

Both the suspect vehicle (driven by an unknown person) and the victim’s vehicle (driven by the suspect) fled south on McKnight Road North. The victim was not injured.

The vehicle that was stolen is a silver, 2018 Toyota Camry with Wisconsin license plates ABD2818. Police asked anyone who sees this vehicle to call 911.
