Applications now accepted for post-9/11 veteran bonuses
Minnesota veterans who served after Sept. 11, 2001, are now able to apply for a bonus payment in recognition of their service.
It comes after the Minnesota Legislature approved $24.8 million for the bonuses this past session.
The state estimates there are around 48,000 eligible veterans in Minnesota.
“Our service members and their families make incredible sacrifices to preserve the safety and freedom of our state, nation, and world,” Gov. Tim Walz said in a statement. “This bonus recognizes the service and sacrifices of our heroes who answered the call to protect all of us.”
The application period is scheduled to remain open until June 30, 2024, or until all funds have been awarded.
The bonus has three payment tiers: $600, $1,200 and $2,000.
