Two people have been taken into custody in connection to a fatal stabbing in Hudson, Wisconsin, early Sunday morning.

Hudson Police confirmed to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS an adult male and adult female are in custody. Their names haven’t yet been released.

According to police, the van believed to be connected to the stabbing was found at an apartment complex in Blaine.

Police responded to a reported stabbing just after 1 a.m. Sunday and found three people suffering from stab wounds in different locations. All three were taken to a hospital and one — a 26-year-old — died from his injuries.

Family members confirmed to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that Cain Solheim was the man who died from his injuries.

1 dead, 2 injured from stabbing in downtown Hudson

"I just want to say, anyone who knew Cain is feeling the loss of this right now," his mother, Samantha Solheim, said.

"My son is never going to be coming home, he’s never going to call me, he’s never going to say hi, I’m never gonna hear him say mom," she added.

Solheim was in Hudson on Saturday for a night out Police say an altercation with another group of people led to a stabbing and he was killed.

What led to the altercation is unclear.

"When kids go to a bar and have fun, they shouldn’t have to worry about that stupid little fight turning into two seriously injured and one completely dead, gone, taken from the earth," Samantha Solheim said.

Hudson Police Chief Geoff Willems says the traffic is up significantly in Hudson with bars and restaurants closed to in-person activity in Minnesota.

And he says so is the crime.

"We’ve experienced a huge call volume increase on weekends," Willems said.

He doesn’t know if one group is responsible for the crime increase, but says two people are now in custody in connection with the stabbing.

Solheim was the go-to guy for his younger siblings.

"My brother Cain is a protector, he was always there to help us get better, just help us from any situation and grow," his younger brother, Trent Solheim, said.

"We’re going to miss him so much but he’s forever in our hearts and we just want justice for him," his girlfriend Kate Wild added.

Solheim’s family plans to honor him with a candlelight vigil in Hudson at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

"My son is a great kid. This is lawless, this is senseless, it just makes no sense," his stepfather, Kevin Hanson, said.

Hudson police say they are investigating what happened and will release more information about possible charges in the next day or two.
