1 dead, 1 injured after truck crashes, catches fire in Scott County
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left one person dead and another injured, the agency posted Saturday.
The sheriff says deputies went to a crash just before 1 a.m. Saturday at 240th Street, just west of Cedar Lake Drive in Cedar Lake Township.
Deputies found a pickup truck engulfed in flames and an injured woman near the truck. The woman, a 67-year-old from New Prague, was taken to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
The driver, a 70-year-old man from New Prague, was said to still be in the truck when deputies arrived. The sheriff says the man died at the scene.
Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Dennis Enfield.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will confirm the cause of the man’s death.
Early information suggests the truck’s driver “failed to negotiate a turn” and drove the vehicle off the road.
It is possible alcohol was a factor in the crash, although the sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing.
Sheriff Luke Hennen asks that anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol call a friend, family member or rideshare service instead of operating a vehicle.
“Please choose to be responsible if you ever find yourself in a situation in which you cannot safely drive yourself or others home,” Hennen said.
