Flags to be flown at half-staff Saturday in honor of fallen firefighter
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will order flags be flown at half-staff Saturday to honor an Albert Lea firefighter who died Feb. 5 after a battle with cancer.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation calls the death of 38-year-old Brett Thomas Boss a “Line of Duty Death.” Boss participated in the Fight for Air Climb events, and also became an advocate for cancer prevention among firefighters after his diagnosis.
Boss was deeply involved in the firefighting community beginning with Fire Explorers at Albert Lea High School where he graduated in 2002. Boss went on to become a qualified EMT, hazmat technician, fire investigator and a firefighting instructor at Riverland Community College.
Funeral services for Boss will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Crossroads Church in Albert Lea before a processional to the Albert Lea fire station.
Boss is survived by his wife and two children.
