Cargill-chartered ship struck by ‘projectile’ in Ukrainian waters
A Cargill spokesperson has confirmed to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that a vessel chartered by Cargill was hit by a “projectile” amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The spokesperson stressed that all crew members are safe and the vessel remains seaworthy.
Last year Cargill, a food company based in Minnesota, became the majority shareholder of a deepwater port terminal near Odesa, Ukraine on the Black Sea.
According to a press release from Cargill, the “Neptune” terminal was built to attract high-tonnage vessels and has a loading capacity of 5 million tons of grain per year.
The Associated Press has confirmed an attack on the port city of Odessa, and the condition of the “Neptune” terminal is unknown at this time.
