Woman who died in Maple Grove fire identified

Authorities have identified the woman who died inside a home that caught fire in Maple Grove Wednesday afternoon.
Mary Jo Berberick, 72, died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Maple Grove Fire Department responded to a home on Nathan Lane near 101st Avenue North at around 1 p.m. Wednesday after a caller reported visible flames in the living room and a person still inside.
Firefighters said the flames were too significant for any rescue attempts before flames were knocked down.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating.
