A variety of events will be taking place this weekend in the metro.
Here’s a roundup of events:
Canterbury Park’s Dog Race Days
Canterbury Park is hosting its fourth dog races of the summer this Sunday. This time, dachshunds are taking over the track, starting at 1 p.m. The wiener dogs will compete in six heats, with the winners of each moving on to the “best in show” championships next month.
The “dog days” of summer return this weekend to Lake Minnetonka. Visitors and their pups can enjoy some good times, competitions and prizes Saturday. The event will be held at a new location this year: The Surfside Park and Beach in Mound. Events begin at 9 a.m., with a pet blessing and paddle board tryouts. Attendees can also take part in the pet parade and costume contest, various jump competitions with championship rounds, and the cutest puppy contest.
The annual celebration of everything Irish returns to St. Paul’s Harriet Island Park Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The event runs through Sunday and features music, food and dancing.
Saturday, Open Streets Minneapolis will take over East Lake Street. The road between Second Avenue South to 22nd Avenue South will be closed to traffic as the Midtown Phillips neighborhood enjoys the outdoors by biking, walking, and just hanging out together. The event is taking place from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Metro Transit is offering free rides to the event. Open Streets will also be coming to West Broadway next month and Minnehaha in October.
