Vehicle split after driver runs red light; collides with another vehicle, hits traffic light base
Police say one person is recovering from injuries after running a red light and crashing into another vehicle in St. Paul.
According to St. Paul police, officers were called to the intersection of Hamline and Marshall avenues shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a crash with injuries.
A witness then told police a 2005 Acura RL was headed north on Hamline at a high rate of speed and went through the red light located at the intersection with Marshall.
There, it collided with an eastbound 2011 Ford Focus, which was going through the intersection and had the right of way.
Police say this then caused the Acura to go off the road and hit the metal base of the stoplight and split into two pieces.
The driver of the Acura was identified as Chue Neng Lee of St. Paul. Lee was taken to Regions Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Focus, identified as an Inver Grove Heights man, was evaluated at the scene, but was said to be uninjured.
Police say Lee was cited for reckless driving, speed greater than reasonable and failing to obey a traffic control device.
