Trial for ex-MPD officer charged in fatal crash delayed to May
The trial for a former Minneapolis police officer who is charged in connection to a fatal 2021 crash has been delayed.
The jury trial for Brian Michael Cummings is now scheduled to begin on May 1, 2023. Previously, it was supposed to start on Sept. 19.
Cummings is charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminal vehicular homicide in the crash that killed Leneal Frazier on July 6, 2021.
At the time, Cummings was pursuing a stolen vehicle in north Minneapolis at nearly 80 mph when his squad slammed into the driver’s side of Frazier’s vehicle.
Cummings moved to dismiss the charges against him in March but a judge denied that motion.
His last day with MPD was Oct. 23, 2021.
