Suspected catalytic converter thief pinned under car, hospitalized in St. Cloud
A man who police believe was trying to steal a catalytic converter was taken to a hospital after getting pinned underneath a vehicle in St. Cloud.
The St. Cloud Police Department says officers were called to the area of 2600 Seventh Street North just before 5 a.m. Saturday on a report of a man trapped under a vehicle.
Police and medics arrived and freed the man, who was then taken to a hospital.
Officers then found tools typically used to illegally remove catalytic converters, as well as a baggie of white powder that officers believed to be methamphetamine. Workers at the business also confirmed that the victim didn’t work there and was doing any legitimate repairs.
Police say the 34-year-old Hibbing man was admitted to the emergency room for treatment of his injuries, and his case is being sent to the Stearns County Attorney’s Office for possible narcotics and theft charges.
