St. Paul murder suspect pleads guilty to charge stemming from 2021 shooting
Court records show a Richfield man will learn his future next year after pleading guilty to a murder charge Tuesday morning.
According to the court system, 22-year-old Brian Devon Booth entered a petition to plead guilty to one count of unintentional second-degree murder. Booth was also previously charged with second-degree intentional murder. A plea petition does not specify if that charge has been dismissed.
As previously reported, Booth was arrested in Ames, Iowa in July of 2021, and later charged for the death of 30-year-old Kiefer Morgan of St. Paul, who was fatally shot on the 1100 block of Pacific Street.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for the morning of Jan. 31, 2023.
The plea petition states the maximum penalty for the charge is a 20-year prison sentence, and the minimum is no less than 21 months. However, a judge still has to formally accept the plea deal.
