Southbound Highway 65 buckles in Cambridge; delays possible
A road buckle on the southbound lanes of Highway 65 in Cambridge is expected to cause traffic delays Tuesday evening.
Capt. John Elder with the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office said the road buckle occurred near Highway 95 Northeast. As of 5:30 p.m., cars were being ushered through on the right shoulder of the road.
Elder said one car “went airborne” while traveling over the failure point, but no one was injured.
Pavement buckles occur under extreme heat when segments of road do not have adequate space to expand, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Drivers who encounter a road buckle are urged to avoid driving over them if possible and to slow down and move into a different lane.
