Shots fired call in Brooklyn Park results in arrest of Minneapolis man
Brooklyn Park police say one man is in custody for allegedly firing shots into the air during the early morning hours Friday.
According to police, officers who were patrolling near North Zane and 69th avenues heard several gunshots being fired shortly after 1:30 a.m.
The officers then headed south on Zane Avenue, and saw a man riding a bicycle at the Eden Park Apartments, located on the 6400 block of Zane Avenue North.
Police say they then tried to stop the man, but he rode off. He was eventually arrested, and police say they found a pistol with ammunition missing from the magazine.
A handful of shell casings were found on the Zane Avenue bridge over Interstate 694, officials say. They add the man, identified as a 42-year-old from Minneapolis, admitted to firing the shots.
No one was injured during the incident.
According to police, the man is being held at the Brooklyn Park jail on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm.
When asked what – or who – the man was firing at, police told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the man couldn’t articulate the reason for why he was firing shots.
