Sheriff: Man dies after possible medical event at Barron County lake
A man has died after being pulled from a lake in western Wisconsin Saturday night.
The Barron County Sheriff’s Department says it was notified of a person yelling for help from a pontoon on Prairie Lake shortly before 7 p.m. The person added that they couldn’t find a man in the water.
Deputies and rescue crews from several agencies responded, and pulled a man from the water around 8 p.m. near where the boat was anchored.
Authorities provided life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s department. He was identified as 39-year-old Casey Hayden, of Black River Falls.
The sheriff’s department says the initial investigation indicates Hayden may have suffered a possible medical event before falling into the water. However, the Barron County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine his cause of death at a later time.
