Several new county leaders sworn in Tuesday

As many Minnesotans returned to work Tuesday from the New Year’s break, several new leaders started their new terms.

Swearing-in ceremonies were held for many sheriffs, county attorneys and county commissioners.

Joe Leko officially took the oath of office and became the 21st sheriff of Dakota County at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m., Brad Wise became Anoka County’s 18th sheriff.

At 11 a.m., Dawanna Witt took the oath of office and became the 29th sheriff of Hennepin County. Additionally, Mary Moriarty was sworn in as the new Hennepin County’s new top prosecutor at that time.

Hennepin County swore in reelected commissioners Irene Fernando, Marion Greene and Angela Conley at 1:30 p.m.

As the new county officials begin their terms, state lawmakers are also starting their work in the new legislative session at the Capitol at noon.
