School staff member dies of apparent drowning during trip with students in Brainerd
A staff member from a school in southern Minnesota is dead after being retrieved from the water by a student, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.
Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard reports that around 1:37 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a call stating that a staff member from a school had gone underwater at Northstar Camp in Brainerd.
The sheriff’s office said the staff member was with a group of students on a weekend retreat. A student in the group was able to retrieve the staff member, and first responders administered life-saving measures upon arrival.
Reportedly, the 30-year-old Hutchinson man was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
In a press release on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office identified the victim as Alan Garcia.
