Saints unveil name for new ballpig

The St. Paul Saints made a highly anticipated announcement Tuesday morning, ahead of the team’s home-opener.

The team couldn’t start its home schedule without naming its 2022 “ballpig.”

An annual tradition, the Saints unveil a ballpig for the year with a unique name, which usually plays on a hot topic of the year, current events or local celebrities. Last season’s pig was named “Space Ham” while the 2020, pandemic season’s pig was named “This Little Piggy Stayed Home.”

In recognition of the 30th year of Saints baseball, the 2022 ballpig was named: “867-530Swine,” or Jenny.

The organization says the name was chosen from nearly 900 entries in the “Name the Pig Contest,” and it was submitted by Jenny Zakoski, of Lakeville.

On the field, the Saints come into Tuesday night’s home-opener with a record of 5-1.

First pitch against Indianapolis is scheduled for 6:37 p.m.

The organization says it will be its first-ever home baseball game in April.
