Rice County Sheriff’s Office investigating after man found dead in pool at Northfield senior center
A 70-year-old man was found dead after Northfield police responded to a report of him being unresponsive in a pool at a senior center Friday evening, according to a news release posted on the Rice County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Police say that officers were dispatched just before 5:50 p.m. to the senior center FiftyNorth and found patrons at the scene removing the man from the water. Despite life-saving measures from emergency personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Rice County Sheriff’s Office said it is assisting the Northfield Police Department with the investigation. Minnesota state statutes say that drowning investigations are conducted by sheriff’s offices. The Rice County Coroner’s Office will also assist.
