Pedestrian who was struck, killed in Bloomington identified

A man who died this weekend after a car hit him near Kennedy High School has been identified as 66-year-old Joseph Mathias Greeman III, of Bloomington.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, witnesses said Greeman had gotten out of a vehicle and was standing in the road at around 5 a.m. Saturday on East 98th Street, retrieving items that had fallen out of a trailer.

A vehicle headed westbound on 98th Street hit him near Second Avenue South. The driver, a 26-year-old man, was cooperative with police and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

Greeman was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center but was pronounced dead less than an hour after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
