Officers involved in fatal shooting of of man in St. Cloud identified
The officers involved in the fatal shooting of a fugitive in St. Cloud were identified on Friday.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified the officers as:
- Officer/Investigator Matthew Pribnow, a 12-year veteran of the St. Cloud Police Department.
- Officer Alec Elness, an 18-year veteran of the St. Cloud Police Department.
- Officer Brice Turner, a four-year veteran of the St. Cloud Police Department.
- Officer Tavion Buchanan, a three-year veteran of the St. Cloud Police Department.
- Officer Lance Christenson, a 13-year veteran of the St. Paul Police Department.
The BCA said another St. Paul officer and two Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents also fired their weapons during the incident, but they aren’t being identified because they’re working undercover.
All eight officers are on standard administrative leave.

Police said 27-year-old Kirby Joseph Michael Hengel was being sought by the ATF and the St. Paul and St. Cloud police departments for a carjacking in St. Paul and for shooting at officers in St. Paul, both on Sept. 28.
Hengel was later found in a vehicle in the 2200 block of Division Street in St. Cloud on Sept. 29. The BCA said Hengel got out of the vehicle with a weapon and fired at officers, and officers returned fire, killing Hengel.
The BCA’s investigation is ongoing. The bureau will release its findings after the completion of the investigation.
