MnDOT: Slow down, expect holiday travel delays
With Independence Day festivities approaching fast, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is reminding drivers to slow down as they prepare to celebrate during the holiday weekend.
This years, drivers will be traveling as construction crews work on over 200 projects on state roads throughout the summer, and travel routes may be affected.
Although MnDOT says most construction work will pause for the holiday, people should be aware of lane restrictions, narrow lanes, road closures and more.
The department reminds drivers that the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300. Click here to view Minnesota laws pertaining to speed and work zones.
To plan travel routes ahead of time, people can view the Minnesota 511 travel map.
Minnesotans can view construction locations by region with this map of state highway projects. Some of the major construction projects in the Twin Cities area include:
- Highway 10 in Anoka
- I-94 and I-35 in St. Paul
- Highway 55 in Minneapolis
