Minneapolis man sentenced in death of 75-year-old
A 24-year-old man who was found guilty of unintentional second-degree murder by a jury was sentenced Friday.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Leroy Davis-Miles was sentenced to just over 13 years (160 months) in prison.
According to a criminal complaint, on Nov. 6, 2019, Davis-Miles and his friends were on a Metro Transit bus with the victim. At one point, the victim asked the group to quiet down.
When the victim got off the bus, Davis-Miles and his friends followed the victim. Davis-Miles then walked up to the victim and hit him. The victim then fell back and hit his head on the pavement.
The victim died six days later in the hospital.
Davis-Miles was originally charged with first-degree assault for punching the victim. Charges were increased after the victim died from his injuries.
