Man killed in Whittier neighborhood shooting identified

A man who died in an early Sunday morning shooting in Minneapolis’s Whittier neighborhood has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Davante Dashaun Williams, of Rochester. His cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and his manner of death was ruled a homicide — the 12th of the year in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis police said officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 2:30 a.m. near West 27th Street and Blaisdell Avenue South. Officers found four victims. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene while the other three were taken to a hospital.

Police said the shooting appears to have stemmed from an argument that escalated.

No arrests have been announced, as of Tuesday afternoon.
