Man dies after 2 boats collide on Mississippi River in Hastings

A man died and a woman was seriously injured after two boats collided Thursday night on the Mississippi River in Hastings.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at around 8 p.m. near King’s Cove Marina.

Witnesses told authorities that a man and woman were thrown into the water when a jon boat and cabin cruiser collided.

After the collision, those on the cabin cruiser recovered and helped the victims from the jon boat until first responders arrived, the sheriff’s office said. The victims were then taken to Regions Hospital where the man — identified as 59-year-old Dallas Larson, from Hastings — died.

As of Friday, the woman was still being treated but was expected to survive.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating what led up to the collision.
