Lake City man dies in motorcycle vs deer crash

A Lake City man died late Monday night after the motorcycle he was driving hit a deer.

The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to an area near the intersection of County Road 17 and 335th Avenue just before 11:30 p.m. for a report of a crash.

When crews arrived, they started CPR on the driver but he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office identified him as 51-year-old Daran Merle Atkinson.

A passenger suffered injuries that aren’t considered to be life-threatening and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office says it’s the county’s fifth fatal accident of the year and the second involving a deer.
