Jury finds Renville man guilty of murder
A Renville man has been found guilty of murder in connection to a 2021 shooting.
The Renville County Attorney’s Office says a jury found 27-year-old Julian Daniel Valdez guilty of second-degree murder after less than three hours of deliberations.
Valdez was accused of fatally shooting 31-year-old Pablo Eliazar Gutierrez last August.
According to a criminal complaint, Valdez and another person were in their garage when Gutierrez joined and got upset. Valdez and the other person told police Gutierrez became very aggressive and appeared to be under the influence of something.
When Gutierrez started making threats, the third person hit Gutierrez in the head with a pool cue and a fight ensued.
Valdez told police he shot Gutierrez in the side when the other person yelled, “please brother, shoot him,” the complaint states.
Gutierrez was pronounced dead before he could be airlifted to a hospital.
Valdez is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20.
