‘I thought why not?’ Minnesotan wins $1M after buying first Mega Millions tickets

A lucky Minnesotan is still making plans for how to use their winnings after hitting a $1 million lottery jackpot.

While the winning $1.3 billion Mega Millions ticket was sold in Illinois, two Minnesotans won a $1 million prize by matching all but the Mega Millions number.

“I thought, why not — it’s only a couple of bucks,” one of the lucky Minnesotans, who bought their ticket in Forest Lake, told Minnesota Lottery officials. It was also the first time they played Mega Millions.

“We still don’t believe it’s real so we can’t spend what we don’t have yet,” the winner said, adding, “We have kids and grandkids, so we’ll definitely do something fun!”

The other $1 million-winning ticket was sold in Fridley.
