‘Hockeyland’ coming to US theaters Friday
A film highlighting Minnesota’s love of hockey will be unveiled this week.
“Hockeyland” takes a look at the culture of boys high school hockey in Eveleth and Hermantown.
Greenwich Entertainment says the film has won awards in multiple film festivals, including the 2022 Seattle International Film Festival and the 2022 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.
According to the Minnesota State High School League boys hockey tournament archive, Hermantown has made 18 appearances in the tournament since 1945, while Eveleth has made 13 appearances individually, plus two others after combining with Gilbert.
Archives show since 1945, Eveleth has won the championship five times individually, and twice since combining with Gilbert. The school was runner-up twice in that same timeframe, and third place three other times.
In that same timeframe, Hermantown won the state championship four times, was runner up eight times, and third place in three other years.
According to Greenwich Entertainment, the film opens in theaters Friday, Sept. 9. It will also be available on both Amazon and Apple TV on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
