Golden Valley firefighter makes history as first female assistant fire chief in department's history

A firefighter is making history at the Golden Valley Fire Department.

Tuesday, Bethany Brunsell was promoted to assistant fire chief. Brunsell is the first woman to achieve the rank in the department's history. 

"It's a wonderful thing to be a role model and be that example for others to give this a try if it's something they might be interested in," Brunsell said. 

Prior to joining the fire department, Brunsell was a middle school music teacher.
