Fire displaces 11 people inside Maplewood townhome, 1 dog found dead

A townhome in Maplewood is no longer habitable after a fire tore through the structure Saturday afternoon.

Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Mondor said that three units are no long habitable because of the fire, and that 11 people were displaced.

One dog was found deceased after the fire was extinguished. A cat was rescued, and another cat is missing at this time.

Firefighters say they responded to the 2800 block of Southlawn Drive North in Maplewood just after 3 p.m.

A new release from the Maplewood Fire Department states that working smoke alarms alerted everyone inside, and that no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents who were displaced.
