Edina police: Motorcyclist hits child after passing stopped bus

A child was hospitalized Monday after being struck by a motorcycle in Edina.

According to Edina Police, a southbound school bus stopped at the intersection of Xerxes Avenue and West 55th Street at around 2:45 p.m.

While the bus was stopped, a southbound motorcyclist passed the bus by entering the northbound lanes and hit an elementary-aged boy who was crossing the road.

The child was taken to a hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the motorcycle was arrested.

Police noted the bus had its stop arm out and its flashing lights were working when the crash happened.

The incident remains under investigation.
