Crystal Beach in Burnsville reopens after brief closure due to high E. coli levels
UPDATE 7/17/24: Burnsville city officials say Crystal Beach has reopened as of Wednesday morning, one day after the city announced it had been closed due to high E. coli levels.
According to the city, the beach is tested for E. coli from Memorial Day until Labor Day. If levels exceed the MPCA standards, it will temporarily close until they return to a safe level.
INITIAL REPORT 7/16/24: The city of Burnsville on Tuesday announced the closure of Crystal Beach due to high E. coli levels, which can cause illness.
While some bacteria is normal, high levels can indicate contamination from decaying plants and animals. Hot weather can also contribute to E. coli levels, the city said.
The beach will reopen once E. coli levels return to safe levels.
