Apple Valley man, former CFO sentenced for embezzling over $900K from employer
An Apple Valley man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison (27 months) for defrauding his employer out of over $930,000.
Gregg William Johnson, 59, was hired as the CFO of Minnesota-based polymer manufacturing company Chemstar in February 2014. Between that time and July 2020, court documents say Johnson stole about $930,000 in company funds by issuing checks from company bank accounts to cover personal expenses like credit card payments, mortgage payments and college tuition for his children. He also added false entries into the company’s accounting software to make the cash flow appear balanced, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.
After pleading guilty in March, Johnson was sentenced on Monday. After his sentence, he’ll also have to serve three years of supervised release.
