Afton barn fire kills multiple animals

Authorities say multiple animals are dead following a barn fire in Afton.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, crews were called to the 3700 block of St. Croix Trail South shortly before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived, crews found a pole barn fully engulfed.

While no people were inside at the time or were injured, authorities say multiple animals were unable to escape and died.

The sheriff’s office says fewer than 12 animals died in all, including piglets, pigs, baby goats, goats and rabbits.

As of this time, authorities say a heat lamp may have started the fire.
