71-year-old man dies from injuries after Minneapolis house fire

A 71-year-old man who suffered critical injuries in a Minneapolis house fire has died.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Howard Leroy Anderson, Jr., died Saturday from complications of injuries he suffered during the fire.

Crews responded to a fire near 14th Ave South and East 51st Street in Minneapolis at about 10:14 p.m. on July 6, according to the Minneapolis Fire Department. Firefighters discovered a man inside the house on the first floor.

Emergency personnel carried him out of the home and provided immediate medical attention. He was then taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died four days later from his injuries.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread extensively in the home.

The Minneapolis Police Arson Unit is investigating the incident.
