2 injured after dumpster fire extends to Brooklyn Center apartment
Two people were injured — one seriously — after a fire at a Brooklyn Center apartment complex on Thursday afternoon.
The Brooklyn Center Fire Department says crews were called to a dumpster fire outside The Crest Apartments, located on Shingle Creek Parkway near Summit Drive North, just after 1:30 p.m. However, the small fire soon engulfed the entire dumpster and started extending to the apartment complex.
Firefighters and police officers helped evacuate several apartments as crews battled the flames, and help from several other departments was requested.
The department says two people were taken to a hospital and at least one was in critical condition.
Authorities say other residents were able to temporarily move to the Brooklyn Center Community Center or rest on a bus that Metro Transit provided. The American Red Cross is now helping displaced families.
The fire department says only one unit will be displaced due to the fire but total damages haven’t yet been determined.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
