1 dead after 2-vehicle crash in Polk County, Wis.
One person is dead and an SUV was “consumed” by fire after a two-vehicle crash in Eureka, Wis., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The sheriff says responders went to the site of a crash just after noon on Sunday on County Road G, about half of a mile west of 210th Street.
Early information suggests an SUV and a car were both traveling west on County Road G, and as the SUV driver attempted to pass the car, the vehicles collided.
The car then entered the ditch and rolled, ejecting an occupant and “striking large boulders.”
The ejected car passenger died at the scene, the sheriff says. No other information about the victim has been provided.
The SUV also struck a boulder in the ditch, then came to rest on its side and started on fire.
The SUV was said to have had multiple occupants, who made it out before the SUV was engulfed in flames. The sheriff did not say if anyone from the SUV was injured.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release the names of those involved but did not specify when.
Multiple agencies assisted throughout the incident.
