At-home saliva tests available to all Minnesotans; MDH urges those 18-35 to get tested
At-home saliva tests are now available to all Minnesotans.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), at-home saliva tests are now available to all Minnesotans following a trial run in 24 counties that began last month.
MDH says that any person who wants to get tested, with or without symptoms, can have tests sent to their home at no cost. Officials are asking that everyone who wants to get tested do so, however, they are particularly urging people in the 18-35-year-old age group to get tested.
"This saliva test is just as accurate as the nasal swab test and is available at no cost for every Minnesotan, whether or not you have insurance," MDH states on their website.
If you do have insurance, you will need to provide your information so your insurance company can pay for your test. If your insurance does not pay for COVID-19 tests or does not pay enough, the state will cover the cost. If you do not have insurance, the state will pay for your test. You will not receive a bill from MDH.
MDH to offer free at-home COVID-19 saliva testing
The saliva test checks whether you have COVID-19 right at the time you get tested and can spread it to others. It is not an antibody test that looks for whether you have had COVID-19 in the past, MDH says.
