Longtime Twin Cities radio personality gets ready to say ‘farewell’

A legendary voice in local radio will soon be on the sunny beaches of Florida. Longtime radio personality “Moon” from the “Moon and Staci Show” on KS95 is leaving after 17 years.

They are household names in the metro — Moon and Staci, afternoons on KS95.

They’ve been sharing their lives with you for 17 years, but now, Moon is stepping down. His last broadcast is Friday.

He’s lived in six states and had many jobs in the radio industry.

There was that job offer as “Moon Doggie,” so for eight years he played the part, even dressing up in character for the job.

But it was this job that really stuck.

“Staci was the perfect pick, she was likeable, the girl that everyone can be besties with and she was smart,” he said.

“The show took off immediately. We had chemistry in two days, and that doesn’t happen.”

From the first picture together to fun promos to winning the highest honor in radio — a Marconi Award — and raising money for multiple sclerosis, which is near to Moon’s heart.

“I was diagnosed in 2005. It’s a slippery slope and a lot of people don’t understand the disease,” Moon said.

And MS is the real reason Moon is stepping away.

“I had 21 doctor’s appointments in August. I go to the doctor a lot and have a full-time job and do all the therapies, it’s becoming overwhelming, and that’s the only reason I’m stepping down.”

And perhaps no one will miss him more than Staci.

“I’m a little freaked out because I’m used to my old shoe, Moon,” she said.

“We’re both goofballs,” she added, and they’re not afraid to show it, even sometimes in puppet performances.

“I’m going to miss him a lot even though he drives me crazy,” Staci said.

“Oh, here I go already. I’ve been listening to a lot of old things, it’s going to be hard.”

“When I meet up with people, they feel like they know me and I wanted that,” he said.

A relationship with each other and their listeners. For them, it’s not goodnight Moon, but perhaps, see you around, good friend.
