New murder charge filed against man after infant dies
A new murder charge was filed Thursday against a man after an infant’s death a day earlier.
Minneapolis Police said a second-degree murder charge was added against Zachary Victor Robinson Jr. by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office on Thursday.
Robinson had already been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and felon in possession of a gun in connection to 27-year-old Leneesha Columbus’ death on July 5.
Infant dies after last month’s fatal shooting of pregnant mother in Minneapolis
Officers responded to the area of 37th Street and Elliot Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. on July 5 for a reported shooting. There, officers found Columbus, who was pregnant, suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was taken to a hospital and her child was delivered and placed in the NICU. However, Columbus later died. The baby died early Wednesday around 12:58 a.m., having been in the hospital since the emergency delivery.
